American Center for Mongolian Studies
American Center for Mongolian Studies offers an eight-week summer Intensive Mongolian Language Program in Ulaanbaatar designed to provide students at the intermediate-level with an opportunity to improve their listening, reading, writing, and speaking skills. ACMS also offers year-around, fee-based Mongolian language lessons for students and researchers at different skill levels from its offices in Ulaanbaatar. Customized lessons are offered to individuals and groups. ACMS hosts an inter-disciplinary field school for undergraduates, graduate students, faculty, and life-long learners. Field school topics include archaeology, globalization and migration, and Mongolia’s energy transition.
The Experiment in International Living
The Experiment in International Living, a program of World Learning, is a global not-for-profit experiential learning provider for high school students. It offers language and cultural discovery programs in Mongolia that include tours in Ulaanbaatar, trips to Lake Khovsgol and other rural areas, and community service projects.
Institute for Mongolian Studies, National University of Mongolia
Institute for Mongolian Studies, National University of Mongolia in Ulaanbaatar offers a summer course in Mongolian language and cultures. Taught both at a student hostel in Ulaanbaatar and at a ger in the countryside, the two-week course includes intensive language study and opportunities to visit places of historical and cultural interest.
Mongolian International University
Mongolian International University in Ulaanbaatar offers a Mongolian language and culture program designed for international students who want to learn more about the Mongolian lifestyle and language. The course focuses on reading, listening, speaking, and grammar. Classes can be arranged throughout the year for individuals or groups of 2-4 students.
National University of Mongolia
National University of Mongolia in Ulaanbaatar offers tuition-based summer school programs lasting between two and three weeks in several subject areas.
- Mongolian Language and Culture – Introductory Mongolian language training as well as opportunities to experience Mongolian traditions, religion, music, nomadic herding lifestyle, and the Mongolian summer holiday Naadam
- Archaeology and Anthropology – Introduction to the traditional culture of Mongolian nomads and experience in archaeological excavation of pre-historical and historical sites in East Mongolia
- Environmental Sciences – Introduction to the study of water, soil, and air quality in Mongolia’s various natural zones
The Department of Mongolian Language and Linguistics offers introductory, intermediate, and advanced Mongolian classes for foreigners taught by professional and enthusiastic native speakers. More than 150 foreign students from more than 20 different countries study in this Intensive Mongolian Program at NUM every year.
NOMAD Science
NOMAD Science: Northern Mongolia Adventure and Discovery in Science — located in Darkhad Depression, northern Mongolia — offers multiple summer field courses in archaeology, field conservation, ecology, and cultural heritage tourism. NOMAD welcomes professionals, students, life-long-learners, volunteers, and tourists with an interest scientific inquiry and a desire to explore the region’s the natural and cultural resources through research and conservation efforts.
The School for International Training
The School for International Training, accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education, is a non-profit international development and education organization offering a study abroad program in Mongolia. “Mongolia: Nomadism, Geopolitics, and the Environment” is a semester-long introduction to Mongolian language, history, and culture. Students enroll in several courses and complete an internship or independent study project. SIT offers scholarships as well as matching grants to students who receive support from Federal Pell Grant funds.
